Is premature ejaculation a medical problem?

It means ejaculating much sooner than you or your partner would like, repeatedly. It is very common and nothing to be embarrassed about. Several causes often overlap: anxiety and stress, relationship tension, worry about erections, hormonal or thyroid problems, and prostate or urinary infections. See our guide to causes and treatment.

Habits that may help at home

  • Start-stop technique: stop stimulation when you feel close, let the urge settle, then restart — repeat several times
  • Squeeze technique: your partner gently presses just below the head of the penis before ejaculation to reduce the urge (widely taught in sex therapy)
  • Pelvic floor (Kegel) exercises: tighten the muscles you would use to stop urine flow, hold a few seconds and release — daily, for several weeks
  • Slow down, breathe deeply and reduce worry about "performance"
  • Talk openly with your partner — this alone often lowers anxiety
  • Cut down alcohol and smoking, sleep well and stay active

These habits take weeks of practice, and results vary from person to person.

Folk remedies ("ottamooli"): what to know

Many folk and herbal remedies are passed on by word of mouth or sold online. There is no reliable evidence that any single herb or "ottamooli" treats premature ejaculation, so we do not recommend any by name.

  • Health regulators in several countries have warned that some "herbal" sexual-performance products contain undeclared prescription drugs, which can be dangerous with heart disease or high blood pressure
  • Do not take tablets given by friends or online sellers without asking a doctor
  • Ask a doctor before using numbing sprays or creams — they can also reduce your partner's sensation
  • Do not combine any such product with alcohol

Could it be something else?

Sometimes. It matters to your doctor whether it has been there since your first experiences or began recently. Diabetes, thyroid problems, prostate or urinary infections and erection difficulty can sit alongside it.

Where homeopathic care fits in

Homeopathic treatment is chosen for you as an individual after a detailed, confidential history, and is used alongside the habits above. Results vary, and no treatment can promise a permanent cure. See premature ejaculation treatment in Calicut & Wandoor. Dr. Hisham Hyder's consultation fee is ₹500, in person or online, and every consultation is confidential.

When to see a doctor

See a doctor if it is affecting your relationship or confidence, began suddenly, or comes with erection difficulty. Seek prompt medical care for burning while passing urine, blood in the urine or semen, or pain.
